Opening Spring 2025: Sara D. Williams Chapel and Mendy Williams Bowling Memory Garden

Nestled among the towering pines, majestic oaks, and sparkling waters of Lake Lanier, a new jewel will soon grace North Georgia’s skyline. This lakeside chapel, slated for completion in late spring 2025, promises to be a breathtaking addition to our celebrated wedding venues.

Perched atop one of the highest points at Lanier Islands, the chapel will offer unparalleled views, complemented by a beautifully designed garden featuring brick pathways and a timber-framed gazebo. This serene setting will provide the perfect backdrop for wedding photos, cocktail hours, receptions, and other celebrations.

A Vision Rooted in Legacy

The Lakeside Chapel and Garden is the realization of CEO Virgil R. Williams, CEO. Designed as a non-denominational space, it will host weddings, vow renewals, celebrations of life, and more. Dedicated as living memorials to Mr. Williams' late wife, Sara D. Williams, and their daughter, Mendy Williams Bowling, this venue celebrates love, family, and enduring legacies.

“The Lakeside Chapel and Garden will serve as perfect tributes to my grandmother and mother,” said Matthew Bowling, President of Lanier Islands. “Both women embodied elegance, loved a great love story, and were the very best of friends. I can’t imagine a better way to memorialize them.”

Southern Elegance Meets Timeless Design

The chapel will reflect simple Southern elegance. Its white clapboard structure will feature a covered porch leading into a welcoming foyer and a sanctuary with seating for up to 130 guests. A dedicated bridal room will provide a private, serene space for brides before walking down the aisle.

The adjacent garden will honor Mendy Williams Bowling, an avid gardener and devoted mother who passed away in 2019. This lush space will serve as a peaceful gathering area for celebrations and reflections.

Plan your dream wedding at Lanier Islands, where timeless elegance meets unforgettable memories.
